I watch way too many TV shows. I have been frequenting the
list of typical sitcom-y, Office-type shows lately, just not on TV. I prefer
the lack of commercials combined with the fact that I already know what I want
to watch. If on the off chance I decide to channel flip I tend to find the
weirdest crap ever. There used to be TV sectioned off to where you would turn
it on knowing what you’re getting. You’d have intelligent shows, the news,
reality shows, etc. Now, the programming has all been mashed together into one
big blob of uselessness. Even TV that you knew was a little different has just
become mindless. Long gone are the days of MTV standing for Music Television
and TLC meaning The Learning Channel. PBS
is probably the last hope anyone has of watching TV without being infiltrated
with pregnant 14 year-olds.
The other night I decided to see what else the tube had to
offer me besides the little Roku box I use. I am very open to the paranormal
and stopped on this show on NatGeo (National Geographic) called Chasing UFOs. I
spent the next 10 minutes laughing so hard before I decided to just turn it
off. The particular episode I watched was about the famous Roswell landing.
These people decided that it would be in their best interest to try and see if
anything was left over from where the UFO reportedly landed. As if there would
be anything decades later that government officials hadn’t picked up. They also
(like a ghost show, might I add) tried to see if they could find UFOs again in
the same spot. One woman nearly broke a leg trying to capture footage of what
turned out to probably be a cow or something. I couldn’t find a clip of it, but
I found this instead, which I think is much better:
Most channels aren’t much better. The History Channel shows
little history anymore. Think Ancient Aliens, although I think it’s a pretty
cool show. Animal Planet displays characters like Hillbilly Hand Fishing, where
rednecks try to catch catfish with their bare hands. The Discovery Channel isn’t
as bad; however, they cancelled Cash Cab so I’m ferociously upset with them.
I’m not certain whether this is a result of our society and
what people buy into, or if it’s because this is what networks think people
actually like. If it’s the latter, then I just want to ask them to stop. Not
every 20 year old girl wants to watch things like Teen Mom; but I do respect
that some people do. So I’m not asking that they cut it out all together, just
enough so people stop acting so stupid and start taking responsibility for what
they say and think. I would, however, want
the job of being the camera man for some of these shows. I would probably have
stories and stories to tell.
