This is why New Years Eve is pretty lame

My New Years Eves always have at least minimal amounts of suckage to them. I don’t usually put a great amount of pressure on the night because I don’t expect a whole lot out of it. I do not ever anticipate it as some sort of majestically awesome night that changes the outcome of my entire year. But I do hope to at least have fun.

There have been better years than others, but I can count them maybe on one hand. To add insult to injury, my phone always gets backed up because so many people are trying to call their loved ones and I don’t get calls or texts for at least half an hour. #WhitePeopleProblems.

One year when I was a cheerleader, after coming home from a national competition, I found out I had injured my abs. Talk about painful. You never realize how much you use your ab-muscles until you are lying on the bathroom floor crying to your mom. The same image goes for drunk party girls that just get home on New Years Eve as well.

The few things I can always count on are that the fireworks will scare my dogs, I will not have a kiss at midnight, and The Twilight Zone will play all day. That last one is at least a positive. This year, as I missed going out with my friends due to a nasty cold, I will at least look forward to forgetting to put “2013” on all my papers and annoying all of my professors.

So here’s to you 2013; I hope you won’t be as mediocre as the night that rings you in.

This is why you don't give your number to stalkers

Now-a-days, it’s really hard to tell about a person. Sometimes they seem warm and friendly but then they end up being a total psychopath. That’s what happened to me within these past couple of months. Transferring to a new school, I didn’t really expect to meet and establish relationships with a whole lot of people the way I did with my previous university. It’s not like I was this poor, bedraggled, helpless, little girl who was desperate to make friends; but I didn’t turn down the chance. Until this happened.

I had to go to a lecture outside of class for a grade. I gave my number to a few classmates who seemed cool so we could meet up before hand and then sit together like all typical college students do. There was this one guy, however, that took it a little too far. He kept trying to physically talk to me during the lecture. When I politely told him to shut his mouth, he resorted to texting me things instead. It made me a little uncomfortable because I’m not used to such weird forceful people.

After the lecture was over, he texted me several times, and I tried to be nice and text back. But then things got weird. He asked me to send a picture of myself to him—keep in mind, this guy I hardly know—so he could save it as his contacts picture. I ignored that text. Then he asked if I had a boyfriend. Also avoided the question. That’s not something he needed to know. He also expressed when I didn't text him back that "He really missed me." Later he asked if I wanted to see the new Twilight with him and that’s when I just stopped. Twilight? Really?!  So I decided not to text him back because he made me feel unsettling and I was worried he would turn into a full-blown stalker.

That’s when this happened, and happened over 60 times:

I had to deal with this in high school. It’s no walk in the park. The guy was a bit creepier, as he would tell me things like “I need to see you again.” He probably didn’t think this would sound as horrific as it was, but he was almost to the point of finding out where I live and driving to my house. It’s not so much that he was a stalker, as much as he was just flat out obsessed with me. And I don’t say that to toot my own horn, because when it happens, you feel like snakes and worms and other slithery animal fiends are crawling all over you. It was bad.

The current guy's texts always resorted me to screaming and running every time my phone went off. But then I gained consciousness and remembered that he didn’t know anything about where I live or any of my social media websites. Hopefully. Actually I hope he does know I have a blog and I hope he gets the message that I am utterly creeped out. I would just text him back and tell him, but then I would have to deal with texting him. With any luck he will forget about me like the other guy did. I’m apparently only good enough to be obsessed over for short amounts of time.

On a final note, he sent me this the other day:

So there you have it, he definitely showed me, huh? Horrible grammar and all. Next time I won’t be as generous with handing out my number.

This is why girls are weird about their hair

I’m going to dismiss the rumors right now: all girls are complicated. It doesn’t matter if you think you’re simple. As human beings we are all complex. There is not much simplicity about living, especially in ‘murica. So guys, yes, you are correct. If a girl says she isn’t complicated, she’s either lying or delusional. Even the “simplest” of girls is still confusing. Even if it’s just a little bit.

The thing that boggles my mind the most is something I do myself. It’s about hair. Girls can never ever make up their mind about how to keep their hair. That’s why girls dye it, cut it, feather it, tinsel it, put glitter and a ton of other crap in it. We use mousse, hair spray, gel, wax, pomade, and I don’t even know what else. We spend anywhere from $10 to $infinity of dollars getting it this way, PER SINGLE VISIT. It’s ridiculous, yet hair does make or polish a person. It's also like an identity to girls. I can't tell you how many times I've down random stuff to my hair for the sake of just looking like a different person.

The one thing that girls do that is just ridiculous, is we grow it out for years upon years and then on a fleeting decision, cut it all off. That’s what I did. Spent blood (maybe not), sweat, and tears painstakingly keeping it long and healthy growing it out for two years and then with one slice of a pair of scissors cut it off. Why? Because I’m mentally insane like all girls. I justified the cut by donating it, yet truth be told I still haven’t sent in my ponytail, and that was almost 6 months ago.

At the time it was an impulsive move, but I have paid the price by searching how to grow out hair and trying to figure out how to make it longer overnight. What I have learned is all methods suck. There is not one way that magically helps. I’ve tried everything. At best it went from growing half an inch per month to ¾ of an inch per month. On average, hair grows half an inch per month. So I guess that’s better, sort of.

If anyone is wondering, yes I take vitamins and that helps. Taking biotin (check it out here) is supposed to give you healthier hair, so I’m starting there. I refuse to try horse shampoo, because it has weird chemicals in it, and I’m trying to use all natural substances. But what else can I do? Besides being patient. But who likes that? No one enjoys having to actually act patient. So if a girl tells you she does, she’s probably lying, which makes her even more complicated. What’s the bottom line? Girls are weird, like to dramatize the plight of their hair, and don’t associate with liars, end of story.

This is why finals can be conquered

I am focusing on this blog to take my mind off finals. I am one of the lucky few who do not have an intense finals schedule. In fact my schedule is so spread out that it’s going to feel like my break is starting in between each final. Go ahead and envy me. As I and countless other college students embark on finals know, even for the “easy” schedules, there are rarely any finals that are stress free. Granted my schedule is easy, but my burden is still heavy. We are always told to get great sleep, eat a decent breakfast, and don’t cram but here are some tips that you don’t really hear to get you through this rough time in life.

1.    Take advantage of the deals companies are offering.
Some companies know that you are crying your eyes out right now. I had a girl tell me today that she is so tired and stressed she wants to throw up. These feelings are very real and very painful. Certain businesses are offering free drinks or something around this time; some are due to finals but most are because of the Christmas season. Check both snail-mail and e-mail for tons of offers.

2.    Limit all distractions during the final.
I have a horrible habit of playing with my hair during a test if it’s down. So girls, wear your hair up if it’ll distract you.  Don’t chew on pen caps. If you wear glasses, make sure they fit ahead of time. One year I wore my glasses instead of contacts during a final and spent the whole time adjusting my glasses because they were falling off.

3.    Be sure to look up.
This sounds utterly ridiculous. However, one year I stared at the final the entire time and never once took a break to look up and catch my breath. The second the final was over, as I tilted my head up, I could feel a knot the size of my fist forming in the back of my neck. Be sure to know when you’re overdoing it. Also this can apply to just studying. Know when to not just stare at the book.

4.    Do not get a song stuck in your head (but if you do it’s okay)
I don’t have to explain how annoying it is when you’re taking a test and the only thing on your mind is something like Taylor Swift (although for me she’s annoying all the time). If you do get an annoying song stuck in your head, try and think of a different song. It’s not necessarily bad to have a song stuck in your head if you can still focus on what you’re doing, but for some people it just ruins their groove.

5.    REST!!!
Congratulate yourself after every few questions. You’re probably doing a fantastic job. You got this. You know what you’re doing. Unlike David Stern who would fine you, no one else is going to judge you for resting. Just because that one nerd turned their test in at the beginning of your page 2 doesn’t mean you don’t know what you’re doing.

Be confident and know you’re going to do well, and you will! Happy finals, everyone.
