This is why balance is not easy

There is a Buddhist concept that everything in life should be balanced, or everything in moderation. That’s probably why I’m not a Buddhist. I can’t seem to balance anything. I overcompensate and get thrown off. This most recently occurred to me when I stayed up late waiting to talk to my brother, Aaron. I’ve written about how I am getting more and more into sports but I never really wrote why. It just kind of happened. But as I was staying up waiting for Aaron to come talk to me I turned on the TV. Amongst the long list of reruns of Friends and Scrubs I decided to turn it on Sports Center. SPORTS CENTER.

For those unaware of what Sports Center is, as I was up until a year ago, it is a show that recaps all of the highlights of the day from the world of sports. I neglected two of my favorite shows to learn about the NHL lockout and what that means for a sport that no one in the South cares about. I usually watch it with Aaron, but I had no excuse. I was watching this all by my lonesome. As I quickly realized this, my sudden awareness turned to apathy. With that new emotional development I then realized I’m turning into a Dude.

Dude, Bro, whatever you elect to call it, girls can become it. As I am typing this right now, I’m wearing a cutoff t-shirt with a stain on it. I haven’t succumbed to totally being immersed in the world of dudes yet, as my room is still pink and I still love girly magazines. Recently, I’ve started DIYing everything imaginable to balance my knowledge of what a touchback means.

Many girls will probably roll their eyes at this post until they one-day find themselves in the same scenario. It’s the situation where you discover yourself walking the tightrope of which level of gender are you. I have a great friend (shout out to Victor) who says that there is no level. Everyone’s equal. My friend group usually laughs at this and carries on, but it does make me wonder. I’m still more of a girly-girl, but will I eventually become more of a Bro? Only time will tell. Until then, I’ll continue to shop for lace and pearls while discussing the general indifference society has of the Pro-Bowl.

This is why I should have just gone to a salon

I’ve previously stated, but I’ll say it again, I have impulsive tendencies towards my hair. I just can’t stop. But the seasons change and hair grows back. So all’s fine. This past weekend I decided to give myself some highlights and then film it. I’m not trying to be a YouTube star; it’s just that I have this nice new camera and the video function will probably hardly be used. So why not make a few videos now and then?

I figured the last time I posted a more thought-out video it was sort of sad. So highlighting my hair was going to be fun right?! Well sort of. There are moments of fun times. Other times it’s just normal and not anything spectacular. You can view it here:

I hope you do watch it, because it took several hours to film, edit, and upload. That’s the real reason why I’ll never be a YouTube personality. But for now, we can sit back and enjoy a should-have-been disaster.

'This is Why' updates

This past break was fantastic. Even though I was sick for half of it, I still didn’t have to be in class or worrying about some assignment. I started again today and have only had one class so far. I already know, however, that this semester is going to be significantly more difficult than the last. I relied on my natural intelligence and wonderfully good looks to get me through last semester; it worked. I muscled through with a 4.0, except, no muscling was needed, as I pretty much just showed up. I was hoping this semester would be a repeat and just from my one class today I can assure you that I’m about to be thwarted into an ice-cold sizzling pile of college. Great.

But I wanted to update readers on what is going on in my life and what happened over the break and how this will affect the blog.

I got a new bed!
This doesn’t affect anyone but myself, obviously. But I use my bed for sleeping, relaxing, studying; so I need it to be comfortable. And my parents must lie to me about finances to afford this thing but I don’t even care. It’s bigger. It’s better. It’s what I always dreamed it would be. But it also means I get better sleep at night and can focus better on all the things.

I got a new camera!
Like a legit camera. Not some little point and shoot piece of mess. Has interchangeable lenses and everything! Granted, I thought I broke it within 5 minutes of owning it, but that was just the overflowing excitement in me. So expect to see tons more pictures on here! Also, new header soon!

I saw Les Mis!
This makes me more cultured, obviously. I am now a connoisseur about the French Revolution, obviously.

New year, new me, or what?! Now if I could just learn to love to drive, my life would be so simple. But that’s a different story I will tell another time. Sometimes when I talk to you lovely people I feel like Future Ted (aka Bob Saget) from How I Met Your Mother. So think of me as such and I will continue telling you such whimsical stories of what’s to come.

This is why hobbies are important (part 1)

I have a core belief that hobbies are essential to the soul of a person. Without something to occupy one’s time, one becomes very dull and starts speaking in phrases like “one.” Even if you don’t think you have a hobby, you do; however, it’s probably something unjustifiably stupid like updating Facebook every three seconds (seriously, just get a twitter if you’re updating that much). Can you guess what my hobby was when I was younger? Correct. Writing.

My mom was cleaning the other day and found a “book” I wrote when I was 7 about what I thought College was going to be like. And as I am a totally unselfish being, I decided to share it with all of you. (I will be typing everything as it is written in the book)

College:
Written (And Illustrated but my scanner is broken) by Marie Gonzale (I obviously did not know how to spell my name when I was 7)

Chapter 1: I want a Job
Once apon a time there was a girl who wanted a JOB! First she thougt, how about a teacher?
She tought mebay not because to man children to teach.
So she taught a cheacker. So she thought not to because to many food to check.
So she thought a banker. SO she thought not to becasue to much money to handle.

Chapter 2: Finding out what I want
She thought how about a gardener. So she thought not to, because to much planting to do.
Then she thought how about a doctor. SO she thought to her self how about it because she was going to college and she was good with helping people.
So she WENT to get a piece of paper and a doctor on it and hang it on the refrifeartor.

Chapter 3: Room Mate
So she drove off to college. She was going to A.W. College (a fake college, also A.W. stands for advice).
When she got there she met this girl. She became her friend. Her name was Lisa. Amy is the name of the other girl.
They had to be friends. They were room mates.
One day, it was the first day of class, She got a letter.

Chapter 4: The Embarrassing Letter
So she opened the letter and it said:
Dear Amy,
I forgot to pack your under ware
Love, your mom.
P.S. I love you.
She felt embrassed and also Lisa found it and thought it was hers and read it.
Lisa told Amy about it and Amy didn’t talk to her for 4 days.

Chapter 5: I’m Sorry
Then Lisa said I’M SORRY.
Then Amy said I FORGIVE you.
Oh my, Lisa thought I’m not ready.
Then Amy did the same thing.

Chapter 6: The Guation (graduation)
One day Amy got a letter saying you could guatiate. So did Lisa.
Amy wanted to be a doctor and she did. And Lisa wanted to be a teacher and she did.
They said goodbye to another and they promised to see each other again.
And they did one day.

The End

So there you have it. I did not change a single word. Literary masterpiece. Also, 7 year old me knows what college is really like.  I hope that one day, you can discover what your hobby is, if you haven’t already. But until then, you can borrow mine and appreciate what a 7 year-old was thinking.
