This is why I can rhyme (part dos)

You guys, I am so sorry. I did not realize how much of a sad sack I was being lately. I wrote this poem to kind of lighten the mood and let y’all know that I’ve been okay and not that sad. My writing however, was not okay and was kinda sad. So here’s a teeny-tiny glimpse of things and I don’t doubt for one second that things won’t pick back up.

It’s that time of year again
Where the sun comes out and I sleep in.
The last time I penned a rhyme
It was about how I was having a hard time.
This time it’s full of glee
Because the school year has ended and suddenly
I am surrounded by all of my friends
Who just want to see all my sorrows end.
I was recently informed of the sad disposition
In which I was writing and my blog’s current condition.
And while I can’t promise I’ll make it any better
I can promise I’ll always be honest with each and every letter.
But today I am here to state
That I am thankful and blessed and feeling great.
While not everything is better than before
I’ve started having a better outlook of my rocky shores.
Having that outlook has kept everything in perspective.
And trying to feel better is my number one objective.
So I’ve been sort of busy and this is why this post is late
Because I’ve been hanging out with people who make me elate.
I’ve been busy doing nothing and have never felt more alive
Which is all I’ve ever wanted but I had to take the dive.
You see, sometimes I don’t let myself be happy
And I don’t want this post to get too sappy.
But recently I’ve been letting myself feel free
And with it, my heart, my mind, my sanity.
So Summer 2013 is going to be a good one
I can feel it my core being that my fears and worries are little to none.

This is why I don't tan

There is a lesson behind every choice in life, am I right? Well what about the choices others make that affect you? That’s where I think that saying gets tricky. My story involves my absent-minded brother who locked me out of the house on the first 95-degree day of the summer. There has to be some life lesson that I’m missing here, right? I would like to believe that my potential heat stroke and extreme thirst were not in vain. Of course, I am being a drama queen once again and doing so to get a good story out of it. But I think that Aaron’s decision to “accidentally” lock the door left me with a good life lesson: always take at least a phone.

As I took the opportunity to finish tanning (without sunblock, mind you…which is my own fault) whilst waiting for my dad to rescue me (as well as Maggie), I decided to use social media to alert the masses about my stranded situation. All the while, no one cared. I suspect they were too busy in the fruitful luxury of air condition and pouring ice on themselves while I baked like a Thanksgiving Day turkey outside. I don’t blame them. They made the right call not tanning on a cruelly hot day. I called my mom and she suggested that while I wait to drink out of the garden hose. It tasted like roasted footballs. I know many-a-kids grew up with this ordinary means of hydration; I, however, turned my nose up at it in my moment of despair and opted to scorch. So it was a bad life decision on my behalf to do so. I chugged a large cherry Coke from Sonic the second I got inside and grabbed my keys. Great life choice.

So to recap, that’s two awful decisions to tan without sunblock and let my throat burn and two wonderful decisions involving cell phones and Sonic. Thus with the score even, I guess the lesson here would be to not have a mindless brother, but I can’t help that. I’m just kidding. I love my brother and after yelling at him when he finally answered his phone that day, I am no longer upset. But it is funny how he instinctively locked the door as he always does and how that left Maggie and myself outside for longer than we intended. It made me wonder what other split-second decisions have been made that ended up causing a ruckus.

I was going to insert a few jokes here about George W. Bush being reelected, Justin Bieber being allowed to dress himself, and whoever came up with hi-low skirts (a.k.a. the Mullet Skirt), but I think you get the picture. As for me, I will just make sure to stay super pasty white and never attempt to tan again. That sounds like a better life choice anyway.

This is why I love my friends

Okay so I know I wrote about being materialistic a few weeks ago but I cannot convey how happy I am to have my friends in my life. I am going to try and not make this sappy but it fills me with so much joy to know that there are lovely people in my life who accept me for all I am and all I fail to be. This past semester was so rough. It just seemed like one thing after another. And the thing that separates people I randomly say hi to from the people I can count on and call my friends are the people that don’t get freaked out when I say I had a rough time.

It sounds silly and like no big deal but we live in a world where “How are you?” “I’m good/ fine/ some word that describes just being okay and a little less than content,” is expected of us. If we say “not so good,” people freak out and wonder why we are unleashing so much emotion on them when in reality it’s just expressing how we truly feel. Now that’s not to say people should just word vomit on random strangers but we should be comfortable with expressing if something isn’t okay. And that’s how I know when I have a good friend: if they are okay with letting me not be okay.

That’s also not to say that people who don’t let me be not okay aren’t looking out for me. I don’t blame people for trying to fix me or fix the problem with a rough semester. The majority of people ask  “How’s your semester” and if I respond with “Kinda rough” they will either ask “What’s wrong” or “School-wise, right?” If they do the former than I know they really care. If they do the latter then I know to let it go. Sometimes people just aren’t okay with letting people be less than fine. But I also don’t judge if people just want more for me. Sorry if that’s hard to follow. It’s kind of complicated.

However, the people in my life who have stuck with me through it all are so very dear to me. They love me in spite of my weird blog posts that rant or are confusing. They love me even though there are things I hate about myself. And most importantly, they love me when I need it the most. I’d like to think that I love them in return. I guess I just realized how blessed I truly am to have the friends I do. And I just hope everyone out there can feel the same way about the people they surround themselves with; otherwise it may be time to find a new circle of friends.

This is why I know nothing of finals

Remember that time I tried to give finals advice (here)? Well I was a fool and wrong. I know nothing about finals. I will brag and say I made a 4.0 last semester but I will be lucky if I can manage a 3.0 this semester. It has just been one thing after another and it is slowly sinking in the amount that I have to do and how little of time I have to do it.

My main problem is that all my summer plans are finally set in stone that I just don’t want to do anything else. No, that’s not it. Let’s try this again. My main problem is that I’m tired of my classes and didn’t really put in as much effort as I should have. Yeah that sounds more accurate. I honestly don’t know. I just know that I’m sorry I tried to give everyone crummy advice.

I don’t have any words of wisdom this week. I already took one final and am crying from that. But at least it’s over. So farewell my lovelies, I will see you next week when it is summer. In the meantime, I hope you pass with flying colors.
